Can't Be a Phase
D.R. Ward
3-15-15
They keep telling me that you're not the one,
Baby, that your just a phase.
That one day I'll want a big, strong man,
To wrap me up at night, and keep me warm,
But I know that we are different.
I want your hair curled around my fingers,
And your small, thin frame tucked in my arms,
As each morning the sun rises from behind our curtains.
I want to be there when you make your coffee,
Over sized t-shirt draping down your body,
Bare feet on the wooden floor.
Can you sing for me, my sweet love,
When we finally are able to live in peace?
I dream of the days where no one speaks ill,
Of our strange love, a sex the same,
And when we can wear a pair of rings,
Like she and he are.
We can't be a phase if it feels this real,
If I want this to last forever.
It can't be what they think it is,
Because I know how I feel,
And I only dream that you feel the same.
Because a love like ours, my sweet girl,
Cannot be a phase.
